Music Marathon Moments | Charmed by Ethan C. Davis & Isla Vista Worship
I'm on a mission, Music Marathon is my attempt to consume more music. This is an atempt to post my reflections about what I'm listening to.
Starting off with beach vibes, I listened to Charmed by songwriter and producer Ethan C. Davis in his project with the musicians from Isla Vista Worship. I first found Davis on YouTube showing his production process and it creatly shows here as he uses a variaty of softwear instruments and effects with high quality performance as well.
Some very fun sounds, even in 03. What you paid for.... at first I thought a synth that sounded like a cazoo, but it's a vocal that's highly processed and possibly sampled into a synth sound- very creative.
Expertly mixed vocals creatily using different tones, some tracks crisp while others remind me of Andrew Belle (who typically sings very muffled) specially paired with the chords and BVs in 06. Always. Full use of vocal space, dynamics and layering.
07. Therapy has great use of suspended tention in the percussion, and some surprising use of genre mixing in 09. Easy. I would never have expected a God honouring song to sound so much like a dancy Troye Sivan bop, but I am delighted to get my hands up when I listen to this song.
Stereotypical influences of growing up in Santa Barbra in the best way. Davis is a master of the vibes, making you feel things you want to come back for.
I don't know how useful this is; I would recommend listening to this album, I'm not the type of person that easily rates things and the music marathon is meant to get my writing songs not blog posts. With spotify letting me listen to absolutely anything there's too much to listen to and write about at the same time, who knows if there will be another entry on this, lol.
